In the year 2018, what is a safe room? ....... Have you ever seen one? Probably not. In North America, despite the tragedy of 9-11, the masses seem to think that after we have one catastrophic event, we will never experience another. They may be right, and I truly hope they are, but I personally believe similar tragic events will take place again....It could be an Act of Terrorisum or Mother Nature gone wild.....but, a tragedy will happen, just don't know when....

That’s enough of philosophizing about a subject of which we have NO control..... This is how we handled the safe room space in a already extremely safe structure.......

We converted 120 square foot of living space into an air tight room with a HEPA air filtration system, imported from Israel, (most new homes in Israel have a similar system installed ).... With the flip of a switch , this system will provide enough clean fresh breathable filtered air into the room to sustain four adults for 20 days or more.....

That might get a little uncomfortable, but it would give us time to evaluate the situation...

This area includes a sanitary station, emergency radio and running water. This system is powered by standard 120 volt household electricity with a back-up 12-volt power cell, backed up by a gas generator, backed up by a hand crank fan in case all power fails........

This air filtering system will provide protection against any nuclear, biological or chemical airborne particle known to exist, including anthrax, and that room is 8 feet underground......

We have had people ask...Why go to such extremes ? Are we that paranoid? The correct answer is, NO. I am not the least bit paranoid, but why not, it can’t hurt, followed by the statement... because it is possible, followed closely by... We are protected against all those extreme weather events and the explosion thing, so why not cover ourselves against the stuff we can’t smell, see or hear......

Please note..... I will not promote, design, advise or recommend any type equipment to supply clean air to your safe room. Please don’t ask.......

For obivious reasons, I will leave you to use your imagination as to why anyone not invited inside our home might find it very difficult to enter and nearly impossible to exit......

There are many doors and passage ways, so a stranger would never know what is on the other side of the next door or down the hall......
